Overview

The System Administrator is responsible for designing, configuring, deploying, and maintenance of systems and software and related infrastructure.  This individual will assist with technical issues in all stages of assigned projects. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project lifecycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department heads.
  • Coordinate with other IT staff to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet organizational objectives.
  • Work with peers to build and improve processes, standards, and methodologies to enhance quality and efficiencies throughout the organization.
  • Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems.
  • Manage communications (Exchange, efax, VOIP, etc.) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, WAN, LAN, intranet, and internet applications.
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform network and security audits.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Support application development team throughout project lifecycles.
  • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Act as Top tier support and participate in the Helpdesk function.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Helpdesk staff.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Supports the Mission and Values of SightLife in all activities.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and highly relevant experience required.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows and Mac Operating Systems and Enterprise grade networking equipment.
  • Extensive application support experience with Microsoft products and mobile devices
  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including VMWare, Azure, Entra, Meraki, Sophos, and Office365.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills with a strong customer service focus.
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to conduct research into hardware and software issues and products.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Continuous process improvement mind set and skills.
  • Familiarity with maritime compliances.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality.
  • North America support experience preferred.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Infrequent light physical effort required.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC upon hire.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal office hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday or equivalent.
  • May be required to travel domestically.
