Overview

Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Port Engineer. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Work with other company engineers, welders, vessel crew, and mechanics as needed. Assist in maintaining the project management schedule of the equipment. Maintain the facility and vessels in a professional and safe manor while adhering to the policies and procedures in the company Safety Management System. Attend and lead safety talks and Job safety analysis. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges.
  • Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Perform repair and maintenance work on vessels as required.
  • Work with other Company mechanics and vendors as needed.
  • Coordination of available resources and personnel supporting the routine maintenance, daily operations and special repair projects of the fleet.
  • Coordination of shop procedures and practices that support environmental yard compliance.
  • Training and safety coordination of shop personnel.
  • Shop budget development and execution with Engineering team.
  • Capital planning for growth and development with Engineering team.
  • Maintain equipment qualifications for shop personnel.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the oil transportation and maritime industry.
  • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
  • Experience in maintaining tugs and barges a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid California State drivers' license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening.
  • Merchant Mariner's Document, STCW 95. To be completed within 1 year of being hired.
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Frequently required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor at all hours.
  • Required to receive emergency repair calls after hours and on weekends. Travel may be involved on certain projects.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
