Overview

Manage Seattle & Coastal marine operations of company. Directly supervise Seattle based tug personnel. Hire, train and evaluate marine personnel as appropriate. Produce weekly operating reports. Assist in vessel scheduling as required. Assist in new project development.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise & manage shore based operations personnel-schedulers, barge and marine operations.
  • Work directly with the crewing coordinator to ensure that all vessels are crewed appropriately as per the COI and company policy
  • Recruitment, training, professional skill development & evaluating marine personnel.
  • Develop and administer operating & cost control procedures on company vessels.
  • Assist in new project development if directed by President, Vice President, or General Manager.
  • Assist in incident investigations, and liaise with Safety Department in management of company safety program.
  • Schedule routine company activities as required.
  • If applicable, operate company vessels as Captain if directed by President, Vice President, or General Manager.
  • Accident & Spill Free Operations.
  • Prompt and correct response to operating situations.
  • Safety record of vessels and crew.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
  • Facilitate development & implementation of company operating procedures and acceptance by vetters.
  • Perform in the company Spill Management team as assigned.
  • Assist with general office clean up as necessary.

Qualifications

  • 5 years at sea on tankers or oil barges or equivalent military experience.
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible management experience in the maritime industry preferred.
  • Four year college education in Maritime or related studies preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of tugboat & oil transportation industry.
  • US Coast Guard license or US Coast Guard Tankerman endorsement on a Merchant Mariners document.
  • Valid Captain’s license on offshore towboats is preferred.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and US Passport. Ability to travel to Canada ports as necessary.
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired.
  • First Aid/CPR training.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members.
  • Computer Skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge operations, ship operations, and terminal/refinery operations.
  • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.
  • Frequently required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor in all weather conditions and at all hours.
  • Required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Work with computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Takes communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning changes in schedules and conditions.
