Overview

Leadership Position in the Repair and Maintenance division of Olympic Tug and Barge. Senior Port Mechanic directly responsible for the timely performance of routine maintenance and repair requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges, and shore-side support equipment, as directed by the Sr. Port Engineer.  Responsible for scheduling, training and assisting shop personnel with daily duties and tasks with the shop.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Sr. Port Engineer in conjunction with the Barge Superintendent.
  • Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Perform repair and maintenance work on vessels as required.
  • Work with other Company mechanics and vendors as needed.
  • Coordination of available resources and personnel supporting the routine maintenance, daily operations and special repair projects of the OTB fleet.
  • Coordination of shop procedures and practices that support environmental yard compliance.
  • Training and safety coordination of shop personnel.
  • Shop budget development and execution with Sr. Port Engineer and Barge Superintendent.
  • Capital planning for growth and development with Sr. Port Engineer and Barge Superintendent.
  • Maintain equipment qualifications for shop personnel.

Qualifications

  • 10 years or more in increasing leadership roles.
  • Previous maritime experience.
  • Marine engine and gear experience.
  • Electrical and hydraulic maintenance experience.
  • Caterpillar engine experience preferred.
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours.
  • Experience with mechanics hand and power tools, grinders, forklift, etc.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
  • Must be physically fit, able to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions.
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired.
  • Valid TWIC or obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR training.
  • Valid state driver's license.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours
  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
