Overview

Perform routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Senior Port Mechanic.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance requirements on fleet of tugs and barges as directed.
  • Perform repair and maintenance work on vessels as required.
  • Perform mechanical skills including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
  • Follow maintenance procedures according to manufacturer’s technical manuals.
  • Enter certified safe for entry tanks as assignments require.
  • Assist department with painting project.
  • Firewatch as necessary during welding project.
  • Assist in general housekeeping duties of warehouse and dock.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years mechanical experience or degree from diesel mechanic school.
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours.
  • Marine engine and reduction gear experience preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining tugs and barges a plus.
  • Marine electrical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic and specialty tools.
  • Lift truck experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to get along with office, shop, and vessel employees.
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs in port in all weather conditions.
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired.
  • Must obtain TWIC within 60 days of hire.
  • First Aid and CPR training.
  • Valid state driver's license required with clean driving record.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours.
  • Required to work aboard boats and barges.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and nights occasionally.
  • Willing to take call outs.
