Overview

The Marine Superintendent provides direct assistance to the Director of USEC Operations as directed. Directly supervise tug personnel and operations with Port Captains. Assist in hiring, training and evaluations of marine personnel. Assist in new project development interfacing with the customer, Operations, Engineering, HSE and other colleagues as may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate company vessels as Captain providing relief to scheduling conflicts.
  • Assist Director of USEC Ops and Port Captains in the following areas;
    • Supervise and Mentor Captains, Mates, AB/PIC and Engineers
    • Recruitment, training and evaluation of marine personnel                                                          
    • Develop and administer operating & cost control procedures on company vessels
    • Schedule routine company activities as required (including Captain & Crew meetings)
  • Assist Director of USEC Operations in new project development as directed
  • Support the development and success of a positive safety culture.
  • Ensuring that all marine operations are conducted with due regard to the safety of personnel, vessel and environment.
  • Ensuring all activities are conducted to ensure implementation and adherence to the requirements of the ISM Code, Safety Management System and specific requirements documented and summarized in the Quality Systems Manual and Marine Operations Manual.
  • Work with HSE and Operations colleagues to develop and support Health, Safety and Quality programs as a senior member.
  • Develop and implement HSE plans, processes and procedures as part of the Project Management, Business Management, and Management of Change Systems.
  • Support the Regional Emergency Response team and respond to company reported incidents according to Company Policy.
  • Support and/or conduct Regional Incident Investigations.
  • Assist operations in auditing and documenting Centerline subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.                                                          
  • Perform vessel management inspections and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Support company safety training seminars as needed.                                                         
  • Represent the company at government and industry affairs as needed.
  • Work with team to ensure critical supplies are delivered to vessels at various ports
  • Perform in the company Spill Management team as assigned

  • Training, professional skill development of marine personnel
  • Safety record of vessels and crew
  • Performance reviews of marine personnel
  • Development of company operating procedures and acceptance by vetting inspectors

Qualifications

  • Five years at sea on tugboats, tankers or oil barges or equivalent military experience
  • Five years of increasingly responsible management experience in the maritime industry
  • Four year college education in Maritime or related studies or equivalent experience
  • Perform inspections of vessels on repair & maintenance standards and procedures
  • US Coast Guard license and US Coast Guard Tankerman endorsement on a Merchant Mariners document
  • HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 90 days of being hired
  • Captains license on offshore towboats is required
  • Extensive knowledge of tugboat & oil transportation industry
  • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery
  • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment
  • Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance
  • Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members
  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port
  • Valid State driver’s license
  • First Aid training
  • CPR training
  • Typing: 40 wpm
  • Computer Skills: Word and Excel

Job Condition and Environment

  • Must be available to take emergency calls on a designated call schedule.
  • Required to board tugs, barges, and ships, at dock or at anchor in all weather conditions and at all hours.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Take communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning changes in schedules and conditions
