Overview

Responsible for maintaining equipment, assisting with special barge projects, and efficiently transferring petroleum products between barges, ships, and facilities. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance requirements on barges as directed by Barge Operations.
  • Maintain/repair critical equipment required for petroleum operations.
  • Monitor product level in tanks, operate diesel engines, operate cargo pumps, operate tank/pipeline valves, and operate manual and hydraulic booms.
  • Perform vessel and barge inspections for ABS, USCG, and Company compliance.
  • Communicate with foreign crews and oil facility personnel.
  • Complete accurate loading and discharge gauge reports and bills of lading.
  • General barge maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Perform internal annual renewal of barge equipment.

Qualifications

  • Valid USCG MMC with Tankerman PIC endorsement.
  • Must live in Pacific Northwest Washington and possess reliable transportation due to required call out shifts.
  • Valid passport, state driver’s license, and TWIC.
  • Knowledge of Coast Guard and state requirements for transfer operations.
  • Ability to operate diesel engines, cargo pumps, hydraulic booms, cargo gear, gate valves, and butterfly valves.
  • Must possess good communication skills by voice and/or visual hand signals.
  • Basic arithmetic skills (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English over telephone and/or radio.
  • Think and respond quickly to emergency situations (oil spills, mechanical failures, etc.).
  • Maintain professional relations with vendors.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, without direct supervision.

Job Condition and Environment

  • Must possess the stamina to work long hours.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.)
  • Must be physically fit enough to pull heavy lines/hoses, lift, carry heavy items, climb onto barges and up and down ladders, and bending and twisting during boat/barge tie up.
  • Must not be afraid of heights.

Expected Hours of Work

  • This position requires a variable on-call schedule, including nights.
  • Availability to receive emergency repair calls after hours and on weekends required.
  • Able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Travel may be involved on certain projects.
